About Gbi Hohoe Ahado

Hohoe is the capital of the Gbi State and it is made up of five Clans:

-Ahado

-Tsevi

-Torkorni

-Trevi and Gborxome

The largest among them is Ahado which stretches from St. Agatha College (Kpoeta) through the main Station/ Lorry park along the Accra- Jasikan Road to Tsevi and again extending to the Government Hospital, Sebedenu Kitikapa, Low- cost Housing and beyond. History has it that the people of Ahado were the first to settle at Hohoe.

After the war, when the people of Ahado went for their “Black Stool” lo and behold there was a python with coiled at the entrance of the anthill. The people interpreted this to mean that their ancestors or the Gods were protecting the Stool. Python in Ewe is “H-.” Thus, “Hodoawo” are the people that shut the door or the entrance leading to the Stool. The people had to pray with water, which was the only thing available. After the prayers the snake abandoned the Stool. Hence, the name “Hodoawo.” There is no record of the previous name of Ahado but it is said the former name of the Stool was Togbe Asotoe.

The second version also has it that at the Ancestral Home of the Ewes in Notsie under the tyrant ruler, King Agorkorli, the whole Kingdom was walled and it was the sole responsibility of the people of Ahado to protect the entrance. Thus, they were to open and shut the door, “H-doawo.”

The Teletsu’s consist of Bansah, Hehetror, Kpeto and Dzandzo families and the Queen Mother of Ahado comes from the Teletsu family.

After six years of searching, by the mercy of the Almighty, on the 25th day of October, 2018, hands were laid on Mamaa Adziwonor III who travelled from Germany to Ghana.
